Transfusion Medicine (Blood Centre) is the branch of medicine that encompasses all aspects of the transfusion of blood and blood components including aspects related to hemovigilance.

Department Transfusion Medicine (Blood Centre) provides clinical services to support patients in need of blood component therapy, therapeutic apheresis, and specialized laboratory diagnostics 

The aim of the our department is to provide high-quality patient care and hospital services, to pursue research that contributes to our knowledge and practice of transfusion medicine and related technologies, and to provide advanced training in transfusion medicine.

BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICES

1.    Collection, Preparation, Safe Storage and Preservation of Blood/Blood components.

  • Whole Blood
  • Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC)
  • Leucoreduced  Blood Components
  • Random Donor Platelets (RDP)
  • Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP)
  • Single Donor Platelets (SDP)
  • Single Donor Plasma (Plasmapheresis)

2.    Immunohaematology:

  • ABO and Rh: Forward and Reverse Grouping
  • Compatibility Testing
  • Direct Coombs test and Panel
  • Indirect Coombs test
  • Antibodies Titers 
  • Antibody screening
  • Antibody identification
  • Rh & Kell phenotype,
  • Elution  

3.    Testing of Blood and blood components for transfusion transmitted infections (TTI) by ELISA & CLIA.

4.    Recruitment and counseling of voluntary donors and maintaining a panel of eligible donors along with details of their blood groups, record of previous donations and their contact numbers / addresses.

5.    Therapeutic Plasma Exchange Procedures

6.    Therapeutic Phlebotomy
