DrNB Cardiology
DrNB CARDIOLOGY
Department of Cardiology is accredited by the National Board of Examinations to offer a 3-year training program leading to DrNB in Cardiology. The Department is accredited to train 2 candidates annually.
Candidates desirous of applying for the course should have passed MD/DNB General Medicine/Paediatrics and should have cleared NEET SS conducted by the National Board of Examinations. Subsequently, they should be registered for the Centralized Counselling, NBE in order to be eligible for the admissions.
Clinical training involves periodical postings in both Non-Invasive Cardiology (Treadmill Test, Transthoracic and Transesophageal Echocardiography, Stress ECG, Stress Echo and Holter Lab) and Invasive Cardiology (Diagnostic and Interventional procedures, Angioplasties and stent implantations for Coronary & Peripheral, Myocardial Septal Ablations for Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathies, Peripheral Embolectomies, Balloon dilation for Valvular heart diseases, Device closure for selected congenital heart diseases (ASD,VSD,PDA), Electrophysiology studies with RF Ablation and Pacemaker/ICD/CRT implantation, etc.). Training includes posting in Department of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery.
Academic activities include regular Seminars, Journal Clubs, Cath and Echo conferences, combined Cardiology/CTVS meetings, and a strong bedside teaching program. Candidates are encouraged to attend National conferences and present the results of their scientific research work at Regional and national meetings. During their training, candidates are paid stipend as per the National Board Guidelines.

1. Dr. V.P. Sharma
Dr. V.P. Sharma is currently working as Director – Department of Cardiac Sciences for Shrimann Superspeciality Hospital, Jalandhar. Dr Sharma is one of the most eminent and experienced interventionists available north of Delhi. Dr. V. P. Sharma is a graduate of Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi. Subsequent to his completion of MBBS in 1980, he did his M.D (Medicine) from R.M.L. Hospital, Delhi and D.M. (Cardiology) from G. B. Pant Hospital, Delhi University. He has been practicing Cardiology, both non-invasive and interventional since 1988. He is also credited with having published over 34 papers in national and international medical journals. Dr. Sharma has many firsts to his credit as far as interventions are concerned. Like, Started Balloon Mitral Valvotomy (BMV) with Inoue balloon in India (1988), AICD Implant in Punjab (1996), first to do Coronary work by Radial Approach in Punjab (1996), first to do Primary PTCA in Cardiogenic Shock, AV fistula & Endovascular (Non-Surgical) repair of Leaking Aortic Aneurysm in Punjab (1996). He was also among the first to start non-surgical closure of Congenital Heart Disease (PDA, ASD and VSD) in Punjab in the private sector. Dr. Sharma is passionate to provide “Quality care at the most affordable prices”. With his able leadership and guidance, the department of Cardiac Sciences has been recognised as one of the best cardiac centre in this region.
2. Dr. Bhupinder Kumar
Dr.Bhupinder is working as Senior Cardiologist in the Department of Cardiac Sciences at Shrimann Superspeciality Hospital, Jalandhar. Dr.Bhupinder is graduate of Govt. Medical College Amritsar & did his PG from Govt Medical College, Patiala & he did his DM Cardiology from DMC Hospital, Ludhiana in 2014. He has more than 12 years of experience in the field of cardiology. Dr.Bhupinder is expert in advance cardiac intervention like Pacemakers, LBBS Pacing/CRT/ICD’s/Coronary Interventions, IVUS/Rotablation, Peripheral Angiographies etc.
3. Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Sudan
Dr.(Prof.) Sudan is heading the Department of Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Sciences at Shrimann Superspeciality Hospital, Jalandhar. He has over 30 years of experince as a Cardiac Surgeon after completing MCh training from Christian Medical College, Vellore in 1991 - the mecca of Cardiac Surgical training. Prof. Sudan has exhibited excellent surgical skills with mature decision making and high quality leadership. Professor Sudan has been a faculty in prestigious institute like CMC, Vellore, NIMS Hyderabad and CMC & Hospital, Ludhiana.
He has been working as Independent Head of Cardiac Surgical Programme in various institutions, since March 1996.
